Being in my early mid 30s and pouring everything back into my business that sounded like a fairy tale to me. But not to Ricky. After talking with me and learning about my business, family, values and plans, he told me that very day we could work around that and it wasn’t necessary for us to form a relationship. Over the next 20 years Ricky helped me with the struggle of investing in the business balanced with planning for my family’s future.

Thank you to whoever had the great idea to “advertise” Grunden Financial in the Denton Record Chronicle just when we were looking for guidance.

Two dear friends, a CPA and a professor at UNT, recommended Grunden Financial Advisory to me some 20 years ago. When my wife and I went for the first and extensive interviews with Ricky, we were surprised, even slightly annoyed, with the nature of some of the questions. Just a few months later, we understood the breadth and depth of the questions much better. Ricky wanted to know how we lived our lives, what we valued, how we intended to spend our money, and what was important to us. The efficacy of those interviews and questions has been demonstrated by the lack of fundamental changes in the financial plan laid out for us by Ricky. It was a solid and well-constructed plan then and remains the same today.

Nine and a half years ago, I walked into the offices of Grunden Financial Advisory seeking help. I was 68 and living alone, and for the 6 years prior, my only experience with a financial advisor had been with a Dallas firm. My gut had been telling me for a while that something was not right. I wasn’t sure what it was, and I struggled to articulate the details. When I shared my portfolio with Ricky, I surmised from his reaction that I evidently had been taken advantage of and neglected all at the same time. It was truly a damsel in distress moment when Ricky Grunden went to work and within a few days had compiled the perfect portfolio for me. And the rest is history. I have never been more grateful for anything. The relief I felt (and still feel today) can’t be put into words. Although I didn’t quite meet the Grunden client criteria, Ricky, a financial wizard with a heart of gold, warmly welcomed me. He, along with my advisor Dave Ragan (who I adore), have taken care of me ever since. No, I was not a typical Grunden client, but I have always been treated like one and much more.
